Sheep are one of the oldest domesticated animals and have been a part of human culture for thousands of years. They have been used for food, clothing, and even religious ceremonies. Despite their long history, there are still many facts about sheep that many people don’t know. Here are 10 surprising facts about sheep that everyone should know!

  1. Sheep are one of the oldest domesticated animals. Legend says that sheep were first domesticated by Mesopotamian people about 10,000 years ago and some people believe it may have been as long as eight to nine thousand years ago in ancient China. .
  2. Sheep are very good at surviving in harsh environments and can live on rough grazing land.
  3. An interesting fact about the sheep’s sense of smell is that they can smell an object from up to six miles away!
  4. Sheep are the largest domestic animal, coming in at about the size of an average cow
  5.  In some countries, sheep are used as a mode of transportation due to their amazing ability to jump and run fast.

  2. There are different types of sheep that are used for their meat, wool, and milk. 
  3. Male sheep are called “wethers”, while female sheep are called “ewes.”

ABOUT LEN THE SHEEP

Len the sheep is a middle-aged bachelor who shares a house at 23 Bakewell Avenue with his best friend, Bert the Puma. He struggles to hold down a variety of jobs, and can often be seen in the bookmakers, or in his local pub wearing a flat-cap, drinking John Smiths and smoking Benson & Hedges.
